The panel, entitled “Technology Product Development – Commercializing Your Idea”, will be moderated by Simon Burlinson, Legal Advisor and Head of the IP/IT and Pharma/Healthcare Practice Groups, and includes insights from accomplished professionals with deep emerging market experience in setting up companies, designing and implementing a sound strategic plan, protecting intellectual property and seeking funding to support growth.
Simon Burlinson – Legal Adviser – Sciaroni & Associates

Simon is an English-qualified solicitor and head of Sciaroni & Associates’ IP/IT and Pharma/Healthcare Practice Groups.
Having gained his BSc. (Hons.) in Pharmacology with Toxicology from King’s College London, Simon had a successful career as a Forensic Toxicologist at the Charing Cross Hospital in London before pursuing a legal career. Leveraging his scientific background with his subsequent MSc. in the Management of Intellectual Property, he worked for many years in the London office of one of the largest US law firms within its IP department. During this time, Simon acted for numerous global pharmaceutical companies advising them on their IP portfolio protection strategies as well as on many other widely publicized corporate deals.
After moving to in-house practice for the world’s then-largest systemically important financial institution as European Data Protection Manager, the opportunities emerging in Southeast Asia brought Simon to Cambodia. The author of numerous legal and scientific articles published in various internationally distributed journals, Simon brings his distinctive and industry-focused expertise to offer clients, whether already established in Cambodia or seeking to enter this burgeoning ASEAN market, a unique yet comprehensive knowledge base.
Aimee Cheung, Independent Business Consultant & Director of Aziza’s Coffee
Formerly a management consultant specializing in strategic commercial, contractual and infrastructure related projects, much of Aimee’s experiences have been gained working on high value and complex technology outsource and infrastructure assignments within the financial services, FMCG, telecommunications and utility sectors for KPMG in London.
As an independent business consultant in Cambodia, Aimee is currently accelerating underperforming social businesses, providing business and financial planning to new ventures and developing an exciting expansion strategy for an established medical company. Constantly looking for social entrepreneurial opportunities in others, she applies her unique skill-set to support budding entrepreneurs interested in setting up a social business, existing social start-ups and traditional for-profits.
In 2014, Aimee created Aziza’s Coffee, a social business in Cambodia employing former dumpsite workers. It allows customers to use recyclable items as currency to buy coffee from Cambodia’s first solar-powered tuk-tuk. This venture is continually expanding with more exciting commercial initiatives in the pipeline. Her understanding of the importance of social impact is well noted as she is also the director of Aziza’s Place, a community-based children’s NGO in Phnom Penh.
David Tomlins, Head of Office – Emerging Markets Consulting
David Tomlins’ fifteen year career spans multiple industry sectors and disciplines encompassing technology, corporate advisory and investment throughout Asia.
As Head of Emerging Markets Consulting (EMC) Cambodia Office, David has worked on investment analysis across a diverse range of projects and sectors including media, telecommunications, real estate, start-ups, energy and infrastructure. At EMC he leads the private sector and private sector development consulting work including identification of funding sources and other support to entrepreneurs and firms in Cambodia.
Prior to joining EMC, David was in corporate finance and until 2013 was Executive General Manager of Corporate Development and Strategy with the Wotif Group, an Australian multinational that operates a number of leading online brands and technology platforms in the Asia-Pacific region. David has been involved in and led several startup entities in Australia and Cambodia, leveraging his expertise in tech/internet.
A tech and engineering hobbyist, David pursues the development of various engineering projects – programmable motion sensors, building 1980s arcade machine and other cool stuff!
David holds his Master of Commerce in Applied Finance and Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Engineering in Software from the University of Queensland.
Ki Chong Tran - Founder / Managing Partner ARC Hub PNH
Ki Chong graduated with honors from the University of California San Diego with a degree in International Economics. After nearly four years working in the aerospace industry as a project manager and international sales executive, he moved to Cambodia to start ARC Hub PNH with his brother Ki How.
