Phnom Penh. Our Legal Advisor, Steve Goddard, attended, on behalf of Senior Partner Bretton G. Sciaroni,  the Welcome Home Ceremony for the repatriation of a statue of Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god, stolen from Cambodia decades ago. The statue, which had been acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio USA in 1982, is a 10th-century sandstone sculpture which depicts the god, with the body of a man and head of a monkey, in a kneeling position. “ The voluntary return of Hanuman demonstrates the Cleveland Museum of Art’s sensitivity to the importance of Koh Ker to the Cambodian people” said H.E Chan Tani, Secretary of State of Cambodia.  Dr. William M. Griswold, director of the museum, noted that he “was pleased to welcome a new chapter in [a] long collaboration with Cambodia.  The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Sok An Deputy Prime Minister and was attended by the Minister of Culture H.E. Phoeurng Sackona, Ms. Julie Chung Deputy Head of Mission for the United States in Cambodia and various other dignitaries.
